Javier Cerna
Instrumental Music Director
Mr. Cerna directs the concert, orchestral and jazz groups as well as the marching band and color guard program at CVCHS. He is an active brass performer, clinician, and arranger. He received his B.A. in Music and B.M in Music Education from Chapman University and has affiliations with several state and national professional music education organizations. His performance experience includes playing with various professional ensembles in Southern California, film studio work in LA, and performing with the Santa Clara Vanguard drum and bugle corps. His teaching experience includes 9 years as a full time classroom teacher and instructing various classical and pageantry youth arts organizations. He has taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels in public, private and charter school settings, and his past instrumental programs have achieved consistent superior markings in competition and festivals. He is currently studying digital music production and loves experimenting with electronic music. Mr. Cerna looks forward to helping grow and strengthen the Clayton Valley Instrumental Music programs while building a positive and inclusive culture for all.
